BROKEN WINGS: Steph Curry and the Warriors suffer humiliating home loss to the Heat, 114-102

Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors reminded their fans that their inconsistency over the last two seasons has been their defining attribute, just when they appeared to be gaining some positive momentum. The Dubs were defeated 114-102 by the Miami Heat upon their return to home court, marking the start of an important home game streak. The Heat, without Jimmy Butler or Kyle Lowry, looked like the superior team the whole game.

A number of noteworthy aspects of the Warriors’ performance will undoubtedly be analysed by Joe Viray in the near future. The entire game, the Dubs gave the impression that they were carefree, disorganised, and ill-prepared. Both of Golden State’s starting point guards failed to show up, though, and that is a problem because basketball is a team sport.

With 13 points apiece, the Splash Brothers led the squad in scoring. No, I did not mean for you to misunderstand. In his little under thirty-two minutes on the court, Curry shot 3-for-15. Prior to realising he needed to step up his game in the second half, he was too happy to play the role of a decoy, and the Heat’s defensive strategy routinely stifled him. In 25 minutes of play, Thompson went 4-for-11 from the field but still managed to rack up 5 assists and 2 steals.

Warriors: Steph Curry's sudden struggles get frank assessment from Steve Kerr

Even though only three rotation players—Andrew Wiggins, Moses Moody, and Trayce Jackson-Davis—finished with a positive plus/minus, six other Warriors players reached double figures. The 25-minute performance was another double-double for Jackson-Davis, who finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

With Curry and Thompson down, the Warriors were counting on Jonathan Kuminga to step up. On the contrary, he went cold from beyond the arc, committing six turnovers. Kuminga, the youthful wing for the Warriors, has been getting more and more playing time, but Thursday’s setback highlighted the fact that he will have to mature into a bigger role.
