The 2023-24 season was arguably Anthony Davis’ best since joining the Los Angeles Lakers. A key part of that was his ability to stay on the court, after struggling with injuries in previous years. When Davis is off the floor, the Lakers look like a completely different, and worse, team. He is the engine and defensive anchor that is so crucial to the team’s success.
Davis played a career-high 76 games, even playing through some nagging injuries because he wanted to be there for his team. He credits his trainers for helping him stay healthy and be able to play through minor injuries.
“It’s all to my trainers,” Davis said. “They did a great job…making sure I’m able to stay on the floor even with little injuries, able to play through them just because of all the work we put in.”
While it may be unrealistic to expect another 76-game season, Davis believes he can play around 65-70 games going forward, thanks to the focus he puts on his body, strength, and physical preparation.
Looking ahead, Davis believes the Lakers need to keep their core together to build continuity, rather than making major roster changes this offseason. He sees value in maintaining the current group rather than pursuing big-name acquisitions.
